See Y'all on Sunday night!!

Well we are ready to head to the Beach as soon as Jenny gets here at 9:00. She hasn't seen Teddy yet either so we'll have to introduce them. She's going to watch the office and take care of Teddy for the weekend. Her fiance, Kevin is coming to stay too and of course, little Cash their puppy!

The Red Hat Club

Just started reading The Red Hat Club for my second Southern Reading Challenge book. It should be a good one, I love Haywood Smith's work!

Teddy is settling in nicely!

Well Teddy is settling in very nicely! He is playing with his "sock" toy, he loves that thing! He and I took a 3 mile walk after dinner tonight. Boy was it hot-the thermometer reads 90 degrees!!! I brought water with me so Teddy had his bottle and I had mine! We are great walking buddies!!

REMEMBER THE HEROES!

Everyone take a moment today to remember all those fallen heroes who have fought for our rights in this Country! There have been so many brave souls that have lost their lives for your right to free speech, religion, political views, etc. Without these wonderful people we would not be the country we are today. My grandfather was in the Navy, John's father was in the Army, my Uncle Bill was in the Airforce, my Uncle John was a prisoner of war in Korea, we have two friends that have sons in the Army-one just returned from Iraq and one that is still there. So please remember the ones who have lost their lives and the ones who are still fighting to maintain!

WE PICKED UP TEDDY THIS MORNING!!

Well we adopted Teddy this morning!! Yesterday his former owner came and showed him to us and he visited for awhile. Everything went wonderful and what a wonderful dog! As you can see by the picture John and Teddy have bonded. He follows both of us around and then he goes and plays with his rawhide toys. John has already taken him around the block for a walk and met some of our friends and neighbors! Megan and Ken are coming over for a picnic in a little bit so they will meet him too. Jenny and Kevin will come over in the middle of the week and introduce Cash, their puppy to Teddy. We are going to the Beach this coming weekend so Jenny and Kevin will come here and stay with Teddy. We are really happy to have a new dog in our life!

The Wedding Yesterday

The Wedding yesterday was wonderful-what a beautiful day! Our associate Pastor, Tara got married to her fiance, David at High Point University Chapel in High Point, NC. It was beautiful. David is in the marines, he's a second lieutenant. Everyone one of his groomsmen were in the military so they were in full dress uniforms and they looked wonderful! Tara was a wonderful Bride-she was so beautiful and the dress I helped her pick out just shown on her!!! She kept thanking me for helping her. The reception was at the High Point Country Club, which was beautiful. Megan and Ken went with us since Megan and Tara are really close friends. Megan had entertained going to college at High Point University and I wish she had picked it! What a beautiful campus!!

Second Chance for Teddy!!!!

Well adopting Teddy might be back on! The owner called me before we left for the wedding yesterday and said they were so mad at her brother-in-law he changed his mind. They are bringing Teddy here at 6:00 for John and I to meet him. They also want to see where Teddy would be living, etc. Everyone keep your fingers crossed. I know I said we really wanted a female but I'm a firm believer in things happen for a reason and maybe Teddy is destined to be ours. I'll let y'all know!!

Very Disappointed!

Well I guess Teddy wasn't meant to be ours. The lady cancelled our meeting last night and set up a meeting for this morning at 11:00. She called when I was in the shower this morning and said her brother-in-law decided he wanted Teddy so he is going to live with him. I guess it wasn't meant to be! John and I decided to wait until after we get back from the Beach next weekend and then we are going to look for a Golden puppy. I rather have a female and raise a dog from a puppy anyway. I think rescuing dogs is a wonderful thing but you usually don't know what you are getting and I have heard of people getting really problem dogs.

Took some flower Pics today!

I took a walk around the garden after I got home from work and snapped these beauties with my new digital camera. The brilliant yellow daylilies are called Stella Doro and the pot of flowers on my picnic table are pink (double petunia), purple (verbena) and the white is called Bocopa. I thought they just looked so summery on the table. John and I might eat breakfast out there tomorrow morning if it isn't too hot. Thought I would share!

We are going to try and adopt Teddy!

We are meeting a couple to tomorrow who own this lovely dog! His name is Teddy and he is a 1 1/2 years old, AKC Golden Retriever. They have a new baby, new house, another Golden who is 5 yrs. old and they just can't handle having 2 dogs. I e-mailed the wife and she e-mailed back that she would love to have us adopt him. He looks so much like our other Golden that we had in NJ named Molly. I hope everything works out. They are going to bring him to our house tomorrow and then they'll decide about the adoption. Keep your fingers crossed!

Name Your Home Place Contest

I have decided to try naming our home place. There is a contest at: http://maggiereads.blogspot.com/2008/05/name-your-homeplace-contest.html

I have thought and thought about this and I have come up with the name "Tranquil Garden Oasis". Our backyard and house is so tranquil and serene, so I feel that name fits our homeplace perfectly! Maggie thanks for the contest!

It's a sad day in the McDermitt household

We found out on Saturday that our dog, Abby has diabetes and pancreatic cancer. We have decided to put her down today. The vet appt. is 2:30. We just don't want her to suffer anymore. She was not having a good morning at all, so we know we definitely made the right decision. We have had Abby for 11 1/2 years and she's been a really loyal dog! Thank you Abby for providing our family with so much love, companionship and happy times. You will be missed by all!

New Haircut

Well after work last night I went to the salon and I've got a new hairdo! I don't have a picture of it just yet but well post one soon. I couldn't style my hair exactly like Jenna did it, but I got pretty darn close. My hair is straighter now and flatter. It makes it so much longer too! I wish I could have my stylist come to my house every morning and do my hair!!

The Girls and I on Mother's Day

This is a picture Megan's husband took of the three of us! We were at Megan and Ken's house celebrating Mother's Day and Jenny's 25th Birthday (which is Thursday). Jenny is on the left of me (looking straight on) and Megan is on the right. We had such a fun day on Saturday together. It went on and on-what fun we all had!! This was a day for memories!!

VERY WINDY HERE TODAY!!

WOW the wind is really bad here today! One of the girls up front and I went out at lunch time to eat and run an errand and we felt like we were being blown away! There was some damage done north of Charlotte. We have some branches and leaves down in our yard but nothing like all the terrible tornado devastation other states are experiencing. My heart goes out to them. We had tornados in NC last week (not where I live thank goodness). I hope all those who were hit have gotten some help or relief. Hugs to all of those dealing with issues due to the tornados!

Happy Mother's Day everyone!!! I had a wonderful day with my girls! First we went and had spa pedicures (which were wonderful!). Then a nice surprise they took me to a bead store and bought me some beads. We headed uptown then and went to the Holiday Inn (where Megan got married) to pick up some silk arrangements from her Memory Table that were inadvertantly left there. They bought me a wonderful lunch there and we chatted for quite awhile. We stopped at a place called Cakes, etc. and picked out Jenny's wedding cupcakes (her wedding is August 30th at our home). Then we drove to a little boutique we love called Francesca's and I bought Jenny her birthday gift, which was a beautiful pair of earrings she wanted. I couldn't make these or I would have made them for her. We went to Swooshies and picked up Jenny's bridal shower invitations and then we stopped at Hand Picked Silver before we headed on home. We visited at my house for awhile, then the girls went to Megan's house to meet up with their men. At 6:00 John and I went over and then we all went out to dinner to celebrate Jenny's birthday and Mother's Day. We went back to Megan and Ken's house for ice cream cake for Jenny's birthday! I wonder why I'm tired to today, but a good tired! It was a perfect day!!

Well everything at work with our paychecks finally got funded on Wednesday! The Bank agreed to pay any overdraft charges any one incurred. It has been super busy at work all week, I'm looking forward to this weekend, chilling with my daughters. Saturday we are going for Pedicures (Jenny is giving me that gift for Mother's Day) and then Megan is buying us lunch. Saturday night we are all going out and celebrating Jenny's 25th birthday at Nakato's a Japanese Hibachi Steak House! Should be fun!

Tuesday, May 6, 2008

Well none of the above made it into my account today! Our paychecks usually hit our accounts by direct deposit on Monday night after 7:00, well none of ours did last night! We thought today it would hit and it didn't. Now the bank is telling our employer they don't know exactly where all of our money is!!!! Yikes we have all paid bills and the creditors won't like that one little bit. The company is trying to get us our money but if the bank doesn't know what happened to it, then how do they do that!! Quite the snafu. ADP, the payroll company said it is the banks problem, the bank doesn't know where our money is and doesn't seem to care-WHAT IS AMERICA COMING TO!!!!!! I hope our employer decides to cancel that draft and pay us what they owe us. I think I heard the Controller tell my boss that is what they are going to do tomorrow as I was leaving the office. DUH, do you think so we have bills to pay here!!!

Poor Eight Belles! I didn't post this on Saturday after the Kentucky Derby because it was just so sad. Having owned horses almost all my life up until 5 yrs. ago, I know how the trainer and owners of this beautiful filly must have felt. I had to put my horse down when I was 15 years old because she broke her back and it was one of the toughest things I've had to deal with in my life. Everyone take a moment to think about this beautiful creature!

I finished reading The Beach Club by Elin Hilderbrand tonight and I'll be starting The Pink Magnolia Club in just a little bit.

This is where I do most of my reading and relaxing. We added this porch on last Spring and boy do we enjoy it alot! With all the bugs in NC the screens really help-no more being bit by mosquitos-yay!! All the azaleas I had the landscaper put around the porch lived, which is surprising since we had a bad drought last year!

Saturday, May 3, 2008

Just thought I'd share one of my vintage roses with y'all! This has been the best year for my roses so far since we moved her 4 years ago next month! I have 5 vintage roses from the Rose Emporium in Texas. They are doing great, which is a surprise after our drought last year!

Went plant shopping with Megan and Ken, Jenny and Kevin (Cash their puppy) and Megan's friend Jen Watson. This was part of my Mother's Day gift from Ken and Megan. They bought me a flat of Coleus for the back garden, Heliotrope, Rosemary, Lemon Thyme and Basil for my containers! I will plant them tomorrow. What a wonderful Mother's Day gift-they know I'm wild about gardening!! Can't wait to dig in the dirt tomorrow after Church!!

Today I went strawberry picking with Megan and Ken, Jenny and Kevin and Megan's friend from college, Jen Watson. What fun we all had! It was a perfect day, slightly overcast, a nice warm breeze and no pesky bugs were out! As you can see I got a wonderful bucket of strawberries! Can't wait to eat these luscious berries for breakfast tomorrow!
